In June of 2004, after my my SV1000S was demolished, I had to find a new bike.
Here I was, in the middle of the riding season, with no bike, and amazing weather. I knew I wanted another v-twin, but I didnt want another SV1000S. The RC51 didnt get me all excited, and no other manufacturers made a decent V-Twin motorcycle. So, knowing that I was sure to start looking at steep prices, and unaffordable bikes, I started looking at Ducati's.
After a few weeks of searching, I found a 1999 Ducati 900SS for sale in Colorado. 3,000 miles on it, barely ridden, and in beautiful shape. I emailed back and forth with the owner for a few days, and decided, that yes indeed, this was my next bike. I was still waiting for a check from the caddiliac's insurance company, so for a few weeks I sat, and salivated over pictures, sounds, movies, anything I could find relating to a 900 SuperSport. I actually went to a dealer, and sat on a brand new 800 SuperSport just to get an idea of what it was going to be like. Desire turned to obsession, and before too long, I was spinning around my office chair mumbling "dooooocaaati! catidoo! docaaati!".
But eventually, I did get it. It rolled off the shipping truck, and a tear streamed down my face. My first ever Ducati! I've dreamed about Ducati's since I was a wee-tot. And now one was rolling off a truck, and it was mine. You'd have thought I was just offered no-strings sex with Jennifer Gardner. There is a photo-log about what happened when my 900SS did roll off the truck, that I'm putting together.
