Current modifications and parts on the 900SSie:
MBP Collets:
Since I dubbed my 900SSie my 2005-season race-bike, I figured it wise to put some MBP Collets on the valves.
The collets themselves are much harder, and a better fit, than the stock rounded collets. Even under race
conditions, it dramatically reduces the amount of closing-valve adjustments I have to do. Of course, I got
these from california cycleworks. Chris Kelley
also has a very good write-up about installing the MBP (Martin Brickwood Performance) collets on 2-valvers,
availible here.
TwoBrothers Racing Pipes:
I had originally bought these because of a trackday crash I had. The crash damaged the stock right
pipe so bad, that it split the seam, and completely messed up my air/fuel ratio between cylinders. So
I went off and bought these pipes, looking for something a little more durable, and something with a
good bit more ground clearance. I got it all, and a added bonus. These things are ridiculously loud.
I dont mean just a little annoying. When I pass Harley's, and other Choppers, the riders cover their ears.
Yep. They are -THAT- loud.
However, these pipes dont "fit right on", so well. I had to spend a couple hours with a dremel tool, some
spare washers, and other bits I had lying around, to get 'em to look right, and clear the swingarm. They
dont just "slip on" perfectly. So beware.
This is my little co-pilot. Some friends of mine had nicknamed my bike "Quackers", because its a
yellow Ducati, so obviously the "Yellow Ducky" anaology comes up all the time. One of my friends took
it far enough to buy me a little toy that made a "quack quack quack" sound when you squeezed it. He
expected me to get angry, or laugh a bit over the joke. I zip-tied it to my grab-bar, and the little guy
has been holding on for dear life ever since. His little tuft of hair, and wings have gotten a little
wind-blasted, giving him a "James Dean of Ducks" look. Rock on little buddy.
