Browsing some of my favorite Ducati sites, nd reading up on some 2V info, I was soon presented with an issue that has been known to affect some Ducati engines, 2V AND 4V.

Apparently, Ducati bought some alternator nuts, that we're made with threads that were 25% bigger than they needed to be. The result? On some Ducati's with these faulty alternator nuts, at random, the nuts have been known to un-torque themselves under heavy acceleration, spin off the end of the crank, and plummet into the depths below. The only sound you'll hear if this happens is the sound of your Ducati's motor destroying itself in a matter of seconds.

The most widely used solution is to buy a pair of Nichols locking flywheel nuts. These nuts are not only the proper thread of the crankshaft, but also lock together to prevent themselves from ever spinning off. Off to California Cycleworks for parts.
